- $$$$$ Restaurants: Saltwater, Tribute (Farmington Hills) $$$ Slows BBQ, Majestic Grill $$ Scotty Simpson Fish & Chips, Evie's Tamales, Shangri-la for Dim Sum (W. - All of the previous places are very good, but I find most of them have pretty standard food in pretty standard settings. If you will be in downtown there are 2 places that are a MUST. Number 1 is probably my all-time favorite restaurant bar type place and that is Jacoby's. It is located at 624 brush in Detroit. It is a great place with classic German food and also a great beer selection. It has been a favorite Detroit spot since 1904. Second is Fishbones. Fishbones is a little bit more touristy(as if Detroit gets tourists) but is a great place to eat. It is located right in the heart of Greektown which is the nicest and safest neighborhood in Detroit. Once you are done eating your Cajun style Po' Boys or crawdads you can walk half a block and enjoy the Greektown Casino. If gambling isn't your thing there are plenty of bars and places in the area to pass some time.
- People always say that Detroit is so horrible but I live right around the corner from Downtown Detroit and every time I go I truly enjoy myself and I love it. While here, I suggest the Detroit Institute of Arts, Charles H Wright museum of African American history, Mosaic Restaurant, Sweet Georgia Brown's Restaurant, Southern Fires restaurant, Detroit Breakfast house, American Coney Island, Greektown/Motor City casino area, Detroit Opera House, Hitsville USA motown museum, and many many more great places I can't even name but that you can find just by driving around the Campus Martius Park area. Have fun and I really hope you enjoy yourself here!!! So much to do, so little time!
- One recent and very definitive guide to Detroit is on-line at http://www.designspongeonline.com/2008/01/detroit-design-guide.html It covers the cool, the historic, trendy, and the ugly. It's all unique and authentic Detroit. And for a true Detroit meal, you have to eat at Lafayette Coney Island.
- Detroit is a toxic dump! The effects of liberalism run amok! If you gotta go you gotta go, but otherwise steer clear. Many people dont remember the days when Detroit was a bustling world class city with a population near 2 million, now look at it. The entitlement mentality has its hold and I doubt that it will ever change unless the politics of how the city is run changes.
- I love going to the Hockeytown Cafe! The foods really good. Greektowns good also. The Casinos are always something fun to do. Check out the Fox theatre and see what's going on there during your trip
