Is it worth buying a Chrysler vehicle at this point? What would happen if they went bankrupt?
I've already committed on buying a 2007 Chrysler Sebring that has 30,000 miles and has a warranty of 3 years, 36k for bumper-to-bumper and 8 years/80,k milkes. If Chrysler were to go into Chapter 11, would my warranty still be in affect? What happens to the value of the car? I still wanted to support the American Car Industry at the same time in some small way.

- You'd have a free car. Quit paying now, I dont understand why they're trying to give money to Chrysler, I never even see any of their cars. ;P
- Probably not a bad idea, and the price is right for American cars right now. Parts and service will be around for years even if they go bankrupt. However, keep in mind that Honda and Toyota sedans are considered much better quality than the Chrysler Sebring.
- I'd do some major research as Chrysler is in the toilet for producing new lemons as it has for the past thirty some odd years. I'd sooner buy an old GM product like a Caprice Classic taxi-cab with 350,000 miles on it before I'd buy a newer Chrysler. Check with Consumer Reports. Good Luck!
- Chapter 11 doesn't mean you go out of business, it just protects you from creditors.... One of the other car makers would pick up the warranties and service......if they did go out of business...
- I don't think you will see Chrysler cars and service centers disappear from the face of the earth immediately after the file bankruptcy. Likely they will be merged with another company, and their cars will be re-badged or put out of production over the course of several years. Car re-sale values will be affected but service should still be available for current owners.
- Get a Ford! Just kidding...I think those kind of cars become a part of another company sometimes before theys stop making them. I've seen some cars take on the new companys name while keeping their model name.I would think they have ways of protecting the consumer from getting completley screwed in the mess. Plus chapter eleven means the company is still in business; they just can't afford to pay their own bills so now a bank technically owns them. You should be ok.
- Nothing would happen. Yes your warranty would still be good. Yes there will be parts and people to fix it. You don't need to worry.
- The company will not go away if it goes bankrupt. All bankruptcy means is that the company is free to renegotiate contracts with its suppliers and the union. Chrysler itself will not go away and your warranty will be fine. Bankruptcy only means shut down for small companies. You car will still run, The sun will still rise each day and your warranty will be intact if they go Chapter 11. Ans they will only go chapter 11 if some idiot senators insist on using this as an opportunity to bust the union.
- has it ever been worth it to buy chrysler....last good car was the crossfire, and it was mostly mercedes built...
