You have been granted three wishes for the City of Detroit. What three wishes would you choose that would lead to more people living and working in Detroit? Be creative! I need to write small essay.

- A city government which does not regard businesses as evil, a second span for the Ambassador Bridge, and an adequate budget for street repairs.
- I would turn the riverfront into a little Vegas or Atlantic City. People love the casinos and it would definitely increase the restaurant and hotel business.
- demolish all the unlivable houses in detroit, that would give a few jobs to people for awhile. along with all the unused and unusable buildings in the city. the homes that are livable I would raffle off to low income people.. mortgage paid in full.. anyone that is working in the city would get tax relief for living in the city. same with business owners.
- Here are three wishes I would like to grant to the City of Detroit; 1) Demolish the Michigan Central Railroad Depot. The abandoned train station has been vacant for over 20 years now and I Never see the station being restored or renovated and being reused in the future. The city says they want to demolish the station and yet, it stills stays vacant and has been vandalized over the year. I believe it will still be vacant for another decade unless Detroit demolished the building with the next year. 2) Improve the city's economy. Detroit has a very high unemployment rate that is over 25% and many of its residents live in poverty and over 40% of the city is vacant and no people live in these areas. 3) Rebuild the transportation system that runs effectively and efficiently. Detroit does not have a grounded mass transits system that you would find in Chicago with buses and trains. Detroit has a people mover that is an above the street train system that takes you around to a select handful of places but their bus system is ineffective, runs late and many bus routes have been cut because of a lack of ridership. If you are a Detroit struggling to make a living and you get to work late because the bus is not running on time, you can be fired from your job. Detroit is a city that has great potential of being a great American city like Chicago, Cleveland or Atlanta, but the reason why I believe Detroit is failing is because their citizens relies on its government to bring change to the city and when the city fails to bring change, citizens complain. Its up to the citizens of Detroit to bring the necessary changes to Detroit if they want Detroit to move forward because until Detroit's start working together to move their city forward, the city will continue to decline and the city will never move forward.
- 1. Restructure the city council, at this time, council members do not have districts, regions that they are held accountable to, and where constituents go to "their council The current system makes it much too easy for council members to pass the buck. 2. basic private services, Real Grocery stores, is the biggest lack in Detroit proper, if one has to drive outside city limits to get reasonable prices for basic items, then they will not live in in the city. 3. an organized demolition plan for blight. Taking it one neighborhood at a time, clearing out all burned and unfit buildings will leave large tracts for business and new construction. if it turns out that there is only one habitable home in the neighborhood, offer this person an equal value home owned by the city in compensation for a move. along with a small repair grant and reasonable moving expenses covered.
- Jeane B, you do know that the voters of Detroit just passed a District representation plan in November, yes? They also passed a Charter Review Commission to rewrite the entire Charter. You do know that the reason we had the 9 member at-large system was because of massive corruption inside the previous system that featured 21 Wards and 43 Aldermen? Also you do know that the country's largest public market, the Eastern Market, is in Detroit, and it's open 6 days a week. In fact, it has been in its current location since 1891 and before then it was located downtown in Cadillac Sq ... since 1805. jeeze. 3 wishes. hmm. Ban all garish colors on party stores, institute capital punishment for littering and lease vacant city-owned property for a buck a year for 15 years as long as you live there or run a business from there. I'll toss another one in ... re-open the salt mines ... it's crazy we import road salt from Canada when we're sitting on a vein of salt that runs from Port Huron to Buffalo.
- 1) Reduce crime. 2) Take the empty houses that are owned by the city or county and create a homestead program for people to live in the houses. 3) Encourage people to take responsibility for their own situation, clean up their own neighborhood instead of saying poor me and playing helpless.
- First wish on my list would be to bring back enough employment opportunities to bring the city back financially and, bring more people/small businesses into the city. My second wish would be to completely rid the city of its current city council staff and, have Detroit go about a different approach of how city council people are elected. (the city should be broke down into districts where each city council person lives in each district so each area of the city has fair representation). Third, enforce strict zoning laws in the city so it will be easier to manage as well, as create a more pedestrian/bicyclist friendly parts of the city outside of the downtown district so tourism can extend beyond the downtown district as well as create an infrastructure that suites the convenience of residents as, well as encourage more and efficient public transportation such as trains. I would also like to see another bus/Amtrack station that Detroit used to have back in the early 80's.
- haha. maybe write your own wayne state essay!
